Happy Birthday America!

Thursday, July 5th, 2012

Besides digitizing, one of the things we really love to do at the Edigitize office is CELEBRATE! If it’s someone’s birthday, a national holiday, or just a Friday afternoon, WE LOVE TO CELEBRATE!! We especially love celebrating holidays that focus on our Nation’s freedom.

What I personally love about the 4th of July (besides the 3F’s-Food, Fun, and Fireworks) is, the day is focused on one thing. It doesn’t matter what your religion is, who you’re voting for in November, or what tax bracket you are in. We all come together to celebrate our freedom and what we had to go through to obtain that freedom. It’s great knowing that deep down, we are all fighting for the same thing. We are a very unique country and we should always remember that it wasn’t an easy road to get where we are now. As you look back on this holiday, be thankful for the men and women that came before us who helped pave the way.

Happy Birthday America! Here’s to another year free!

Happy Flag Day!

Thursday, June 14th, 2012

We were talking in our office the other day about how so few Americans know about this holiday. So, for those of you who may not know: June 14th is FLAG DAY! While Independence Day celebrates our freedom as a nation, Flag Day is all about celebrating our nation’s official adoption of The Stars and Stripes!

According to the legend, George Washington commissioned Philadelphia seamstress Betsy Ross to create a flag for the new nation in 1776 (1). Regardless of who actually created the first flag design, the Continental Congress approved the design of our national flag on June 14, 1777. Thus, we have Flag Birthday, or Flag Day!

So, before you get too excited for Independence Day, don’t forget to celebrate the symbol of our nation’s freedom that we see nearly every day: Our Flag!

National Sewing Machine Day

Wednesday, June 13th, 2012

It’s National Sewing Machine Day! Because of this, we as Embroiderers, Digitizers, and Promotional Product extraordinaires have a reason to celebrate! Though sewing machines are no longer a standard household item that can be found in any and every house as they once were, they are still an important part of our lives and businesses.

Sewing machines have greatly evolved since the time of their inception, to say the least. Though much had happened before the 1800’s, the first functional sewing machine was invented by the French tailor, Barthelemy Thimonnier, in 1830. Though his machine only used one thread and a hooked needle, the thought of this invention taking off caused such an uproar that the inventor was almost killed by an enraged group of French tailors who burnt down his garment factory because they feared unemployment as a result of his new invention. (1) I guess it’s safe to say that the embroidery business is still alive and well today, with even much more effective and efficient machines than those in the 1800’s could have dreamed of.

Whether you use a sewing machine to make clothes and products for your own home or to mass produce promotional products – the sewing machine undoubtedly is a huge benefit to our daily lives.

So we say THANKS to everyone who helped invent the sewing machine & make it into what it is today!
